Chasing Hurricane Genevieve

This summer’s been a bit of a blur. Southern California has been on a rare run where it feels like everyone surfed themselves into the ground. After weeks of back-to-back Southern Hemisphere swell, Hurricane Genevieve showed up to close things out. With Koa in town this felt like a perfect time to team up on a hurricane hunt.
Like most East Pacific storms, the forecast was all over the place. One update had it looking enormous, the next had everyone second guessing their plans. That's the game with hurricanes. You never really know what you're getting until you're standing on the beach in the morning mist.
In the end the swell showed up, not the Cat 5 we were dreaming of, but the water was 75 degrees, and Wedge was about as uncrowded as I've seen it in a long time.
